Straffe verhalen...

Buiten waait het knoerhard, de winter lijkt wel een uitgerokken herfst, het regent met bakken...

Tijd om weer wat opzoekwerk te doen, of beter gezegd: zoeken naar andermans werkwijze om mijn L17 in orde te zetten.

Zo kwam ik toevallig op een website/forum terecht waar ze spraken over reisverslagen en nieuwtjes over zeilers die met een Leisure 17 de wereld zouden rondzeilen, oceanen oversteken, of er zelfs op 'wonen'.

Strafste dat ik tegen kwam, en tastbaar ook, is een man die solo van Groot Brittanie naar Gran Canaria wil zeilen in een L17. Hij zou intussen onderweg moeten zijn. Hij probeerde via een webpagina geld in te zamelen voor een goed doel en legt daar zijn reisroute uit.
Benieuwd of we daar iets over gaan horen...




En deze 'straffe' verhalen wil ik de lezers van mijn blog ook niet onthouden :D

Zo las ik onder andere volgende:

I saw a newspaper cutting the other day detailing how a couple had been found dead on a yacht off Tunisia, him lashed to the wheel and her lashed below. Speculation was that they may have lashed themselves down in rough weather then somehow died of dehydration.

The first twist in the story was that the (married) male had told his family he was off to sail round the world alone for three years and the (widowed) woman had told her adult offspring that she was sailing off with a man to set up home in Italy. 

The second twist was that the picture over the caption 'death yacht' looked very like a leisure 17!

No one tried sailing round the world two up in a Leisure 17, did they?

En dan nog dit 'eye witness' nieuwtje:

Around 1984/85 I anchored in Ballyhome Bay in Belfast Loch (there was no Bangor Marina in those days) and on rowing ashore met a chap who was just setting off "round the world" in a Leisure 17. The boat was called "Pride of India" I think. A few weeks later I heard he was rescued in the Channel and the coast guard were trying to prevent him from setting sail again. I don't know what happened after that.

In elk geval heeft het feit dat Mr. Adam met een L17 de oceaan overgestoken was, flink geholpen aan de verkoop en het imago van de Leisure 17:

To answer your specific question, when my father bought ours in 1971 part of the sales blurb boasted that a Leisure17 had been sailed across the Atlantic.

I guess if you can do one ocean, you can do them all.

In Ryde Harbour last September I met a young German who had a very smart L17 that he had sailed from the Baltic. He was planning to winter in Newport then return sometime this year.

I read a story some years ago about a young man who sailed a Hunter 19 single-handed transatlantic. It was an excellent guide for the preparation needed for such a trip. The boat was called Griffin, but cannot recall the sailors name.

I would take my Sunstar 18 anywhere after a bit of beefing-up of rigging etc. Tough as nails.
